Sustainability Practices
Sustainability at SAP is a long term commitment. SAP is committed to improving its own operations to become more sustainable and to delivering customer solutions to improve sustainability on a grand scale. In line with the SAP corporate strategy and policies, SAP TechEd is committed to continuously improve our operations, marketing, and events to become more sustainable.
SAP Solutions for Sustainability
CEO's and corporate boards today are increasingly focused on sustainability objectives to ensure compliance, minimize risk, enhance their brand, and reduce costs and greenhouse gases. SAP offerings enable companies to execute on their sustainability objectives by providing IT solutions and services in areas such as sustainability reporting, environment, health and safety, product safety, and carbon management. SAP has a range of products that enable customers to address their sustainability initiatives, reduce their cost of compliance, and reduce business risk in the face of proliferating local, regional, and global regulations that impact the environment. Further, IT organizations can implement "Green IT" by reducing the energy footprint of SAP solutions in their data centers through consolidation, virtualization, and other landscape optimization services.
At SAP TechEd, you can explore how SAP can help you on your journey to sustainability through:
- Featured SAP educational sessions on SAP sustainability solutions and green IT
- Community-driven educational sessions featuring green IT and sustainability topics from customers, partners, and employees.
- Process Design Slam, a collaborative evening where SCN members can put their business process management skills to work along with utilities and energy domain experts to design “Virtual Power Plant Processes”.
- SAP TechEd Live video interview: Sven Denecken — A Look Inside SAP's Sustainability Strategy and Opportunities
Sustainability at SAP TechEd
Below you will find some of our sustainability initiatives. As we plan the event, we continue to evaluate opportunities to lower our impact on the environment while maintaining a high level of attendee satisfaction. Details are subject to change.
Of course, true sustainability depends on everyone's contribution. We encourage all attendees to participate in this effort, and we welcome your suggestions and feedback.
To reduce paper waste, we:
- Use digital media to display conference and session information, including online access to session handouts, session tickers, info kiosks, and a mobile on-site guide
- Continue to reduce printed handouts, printed signs, and the size of the printed on-site guide by selectively printing only critical information
(example: redesigned this year's on-site guide as a pocket guide approximately one third the size of previous guides)
- Use recycled paper (printed on both sides whenever possible)
To minimize waste and resource consumption, we:
- Provide
each Full Conference registrant with a USB flash drive conveniently containing all the session material PDFs, instead of a conference backpack or bag, at check-in
- Encourage attendees to bring your own reusable bottles for refilling water.
- Encourage attendees to dispose of recyclable materials — including paper, cardboard, metal, and plastics — in the recycling receptacles provided throughout the center
- Reuse banners and decorative materials at other events whenever possible
- Select vendors for the production of the event based in part on their sustainability practices
- Work with the convention center to ensure air conditioning and lights are turned off when not in use
To facilitate eco-friendly transportation, we:
- Offer tips on using public transportation
- Encourage attendees to share taxis when public transportation is not possible
To minimize waste and carbon footprint of our food service, we work with the caterer to:
- Use fresh, seasonal, local, and organic ingredients whenever possible
- Compost leftover food
